Liquefied Natural Gas

A Natural Choice

The proposed facility will be connected directly to New Mexico Gas Company’s transmission pipelines, providing immediate and uninterrupted access to stored gas when our customers need it the most. Located about two miles north of Double Eagle II airport, the facility will occupy 25 acres within a 160-acre property west of Atrisco Vista Boulevard that is zoned for commercial development.

Incorporating decades of industry best practices, this facility will include a high-strength steel storage tank with the capacity to hold 12 million gallons of natural gas in liquid form, on-site liquefaction/gasification, and fire suppression systems. The facility will be staffed and monitored 24/7/365 by trained New Mexico Gas Company personnel.

Natural gas storage is an important part of supply planning and reliability. New Mexico Gas Company currently leases storage in Texas. Relocating our natural gas storage to a New Mexico Gas Company-owned, in-state LNG storage facility provides certainty about access to stored gas when it’s needed most, especially on the coldest winter days or during supply constraints.

The proposed LNG storage facility will allow us to purchase natural gas for storage during low-demand periods when gas prices are lower, and then utilize that stored gas for delivery to our customers during periods of high demand and high prices – passing that savings directly on to our customers.

Natural gas utilities in more than 20 states operate similar
LNG storage facilities and have done so safely and reliably
for more than 40 years.
